Optometric Technician

Busy, growing optometric office seeks full time Technician.
The role of the Technician is to provide technical support to the Optometrist(s). This includes patient work-up, pretesting, tonometry, and performing the appropriate professional services to patients. As the functional liaison between patient and doctor, the Technician is responsible for communicating all patient questions and concerns to the optometrist.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates expert ability in communicating with patients the purpose of each test and its importance to their eye health
  • Operation and maintenance of all pretesting equipment including but not limited to:
    • Lensometer
    • Auto-refractor / keratometer
    • Tonometry
    • Retinal wide-field imaging
    • Auto-field perimeter
    • Visual acuity test
    • Blood pressure
  • Stocking and maintenance of all exam rooms
  • Tracks and orders supply inventory (alcohol pads, FI strips, etc.) as appropriate
  • Tracks and reports to leadership/management the capture rate of all specialized testing

Duties will include:

  • Answering multi-line phones
  • Greeting patients
  • Verifying insurances and demographics at each visit
  • Obtain referrals and authorizations
  • Scheduling appointments and calling for appointment reminders
  • Checking and sorting through faxes
  • Scanning documents
  • Weekly Reporting
  • Assisting with other responsibilities as requested

Duties will include:

  • Greet patients with a sense of urgency and a warm welcome
  • Uncover needs of patients
  • Recommend lens and frame options in a consultative manner
  • Verifying/billing insurances
  • Accurately enter eyeglass
  • Quality inspect eyewear with lensometer
  • Neutralize eyeglass prescriptions and prism
  • Manufacture lenses in our finish lab
  • Answering phones
  • Notify patients for pick up of glasses and contacts
  • Dispense and adjust eyewear to patients
  • Price, clean, and display frames
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed
